Health and Safety on the Farm – Heat Stress, Climate Hazards Webinar with OHCOW

in-person event

Start time by time zone
4pm PDT / 5pm AB + SK / 6pm MB / 7pm EDT / 8pm ADT

July 2, 2024 @ 5:00 pm 6:00 pm CST

With summer underway, farmers and farm workers are already facing the heat. Exposure to high temperatures poses a serious hazard for those of us who work outdoors. Heat related illness can be serious in the immediate and longer term.

For many of us, climate change has also meant learning to safely navigate wildfire smoke and extreme storms, in addition to the risks of heat stress. While we can’t “weatherproof” our farms, there are a number of measures we and our teams can take to keep safe this summer. Featuring Occupational Hygienist John Oudyk from OHCOW (Occupational Health Clinics for Ontario Workers), the webinar will cover:

  • risk factors to watch out for
  • heat stress prevention on the farm, and
  • how to recognise and address signs of heat-related illness.

There will be opportunities to ask questions, learn practical ways to implement best practices, and share your experience and expertise trying to keep safe in the climate crisis.
