(August 13, 2013) The National Farmers Union in New Brunswick (NFU in NB) is pleased to announce the 2013 winners of the David Frost Memorial Scholarships and the National Farmers Union in NB Scholarship.
Berndien Bakker of Killoween is the winner of the $1000 David Frost scholarship for a daughter or son of a registered agriculture producer in NB, taking a degree program. Bakker will attend the Dalhousie University Agriculture Campus in Truro, NS, in the fall to study animal science in a pre-veterinary program.
Louise Paradis of Drummond is the winner of the $500 David Frost scholarship for a daughter or son of a registered agriculture producer in NB, taking a diploma program. Paradis will attend the Dalhousie University Diploma in Technology program in Business Management, Agriculture, at the Truro, NS campus.
The winner of the National Farmers Union in NB $1000 scholarship for a daughter or son of a registered member of the NFU in NB is Kasadee Allan of Glassville, NB. Allan will attend Dalhousie University Agriculture Campus in Truro, NS, in September to take a degree program in pre-veterinary studies.
The three winners were announced at the NFU Region 1 meeting in Cornwall, PE, on August 6, 2013. The NFU in NB scholarships are awarded to NB high school graduates who are entering a program at a recognized Canadian institution, with priority given to students enrolled in an agricultural program. Academic standing, school and community involvement, demonstrated interest in agriculture, and financial need are all taken into consideration.
Funds will be awarded in mid-January, 2014, following successful completion of the first semester of study and commencement of the second semester. Awarding these scholarships is the way that the NFU in NB has chosen to honour the memory of David Frost, a respected agrologist who worked for many years as a valued consultant to farmers in the upper St. John River Valley. By doing so, the NFU also encourages and supports a new generation of farmers.
The National Farmers Union in New Brunswick is one of two accredited general farm organizations in the province. For more information contact us by email firstname.lastname@example.org or visit us online at www.nfunb.org.
