The NFU Region 6 Convention will be held virtually via zoom on April 14 from 10 AM–3 PM CST. This is your opportunity to gather with fellow members, hear what the region has been up to this year, elect new board members, discuss regional priorities, and craft new resolutions for the upcoming year.
NFU President Jenn Pfenning will make a presentation on current NFU activities and plans for next year.
A highlight of the event will be a keynote presentation from members of the Treaty Land Sharing Network (TLSN), Martha Robbins and Tom Harrison. The TLSN is an organization that connects farmers and other landholders with First Nations and Métis people needing safe access to land to practice their way of life. Martha is a coordinator of the TLSN based in Saskatoon and Tom is a farmer participant based in Lumsden. Together they will speak about the TLSN’s origins and structure, what they are working on now, and some of the challenges and successes they’ve had along the way.
Lorne Scott, farmer, President of Nature Saskatchewan, and former Minister of the Environment, will give a brief presentation on using conservation easements to provide permanent protection for woodlands, wetlands, and grasslands that are part of a farm property.
The program will also include reports from active members and working groups including on the climate change and seed sovereignty campaigns, the farmland co-operative committee, the Lake Diefenbaker Irrigation Project, the meetings of the Water Security Agency, and “The World We Want” fundraising program of the National Farmers Foundation.
Members may attend (free of charge) via computer or phone.
Please register by calling the NFU office at (306) 652-9465 or email nfu@nfu.ca . Guests of members are also welcome to attend.
If you wish to put forward a resolution to be considered at convention, please send it to Lyle Orchard from the Resolutions Committee, preferably at least one week prior to convention. His email is orchardrlyle@gmail.com
