Alternative Forms of Farmland Tenure

On Thursday, February 17th NFU’s Farmland Committee will host Ian McSweeny Organizational Director of Agrarian Trust to discuss the principles of the organization, its history and structure, the work it does creating individual agrarian commons and the commons alliance, and some context on US agriculture and land trusts.

About Ian McSweeny: Ian’s work has focused on the human connection to soil and food.  To that end, he has founded a brokerage and consulting company, acted as Executive Director of the Russel Foundation, and served on many Boards and Commissions. Recognized as a “40 under 40” leader in New Hampshire, he was also selected for the Leadership Institute at Food Solutions New England.  Presently he is Organizational Director of Agrarian Trust, a nationally-supported, community-held land and agrarian property that supports sustainable food production, ecological stewardship, community vitality, and equitable land access for the next generation of American farmers.He lives with his wife and family on a small New Hampshire farm that uses ecological management practises and is protected by a conservation easement.
