First\, join us on Friday\, April 24th for a social at The Broadway Collective. The following day\, Saturday\, April 25th\, we will gather again for our Region 6 Convention at Station 20 West. Read on for more details… \n\n\n\nClick here for Region 6 Social details \n\n\n\nSaturday\, April 25th\, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm \n\n\n\nLocation: Station 20 West (1120 20th St W) in Saskatoon or online via Zoom. \n\n\n\nDoors Open / Registration: 9:30am \n\n\n\nAgenda to include: national updates\, regional updates\, presentation and discussion on public research and the sustainability of farming\, discussion on Region 6 plans and priorities\, on-farm and policy issues roundtable\, regional resolutions and elections. \n\n\n\nAdmission: For those attending in person\, the event is pay-what-you-can with a suggested fee of $50 to cover lunch\, refreshments\, and venue rental. This fee can be paid in cash or by e-transfer at the door. A fee of $20 is suggested for online participation\, to cover audiovisual capacity and staffing\, which can be paid by e-transfer to nfu@nfu.ca. Be sure to include a note with your e-transfer that states “R6 Convention Online Registration Fee.” \n\n\n\nAll are welcome to attend and participate; however\, only farmer and farm-worker members may propose and vote on resolutions\, as well as run for and vote on elected positions. \n\n\n\nPlease RSVP: by emailing Julie Maxwell at vp-operations@nfu.ca and include the following: \n\n\n\n\nWill you be attending online or in person? \n\n\n\nWould you like to submit any nominations? (If so\, please include them) \n\n\n\nWould you like to submit any resolutions? (We will do our best to accommodate.) \n\n\n\n\nRequests to SK NFU Members:\n\n\n\n1. Attend – We encourage all members to attend the Regional Convention. Your participation and input is very important in discussions which will provide direction for \n\n\n\nour Regional and National voice. \n\n\n\n2. Invite – We encourage you to invite interested farmers and friends to take part in the convention. Please ask two of your neighbours to come out! \n\n\n\n3. E-mails – If you aren’t getting regular information via e-mail\, please send your e-mail to vp-operations@nfu.ca. We want to keep you informed more regularly. \n\n\n\n4. Donate – Support Region 6 by donating to the National Farmers Foundation “The World We Want” program. Volunteer and Attend R6 Monthly Meetings – If you are able to participate or take on a role\, it really does make a difference. \n\n\n\nA New Member’s Guide to NFU Region 6 Conventions: \n\n\n\nRegional conventions are held every year as set out in the NFU constitution. The purpose of the R6 regional convention shall be to:  \n\n\n\n\nDevelop strategy and action on matters concerning the members residing in the region which is consistent with national policy;\n\n\n\nConsider policies and programs to be recommended to the annual convention;\n\n\n\nElect the following regional council positions:\n\nthree national board representatives;\n\n\n\none women’s advisory committee member;\n\n\n\none youth advisory committee member;\n\n\n\none BIPOC advisory committee member;\n\n\n\none International Programs committee member. \n\n\n\nup to three additional council members-at-large \n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Resolutions:\n\n\n\nThe NFU’s Policy Statement compiles all policies — including position statements\, policy recommendations to government\, action directives\, etc. – that have been passed by a majority vote of delegates at previous national conventions. \n\n\n\nEach year members bring forward new policy proposals in the form of resolutions for debate on the floor of the National Convention. Resolutions that pass are added to the NFU Policy Statement. \n\n\n\nPrior to the National Convention\, each NFU Region holds an annual Regional Convention where resolutions are debated and voted upon. Resolutions that have been passed at the regional level come forward to the national Convention. \n\n\n\nAll farmer and farm-worker members in good standing residing in the region may submit and vote on resolutions. Debate at both regional and national conventions is done according to the rules of order published in Parliamentary Procedure at a Glance\, New Edition by O. Garfield Jones. The goal is to have as many policy resolutions as possible heard and thoroughly debated with the least amount of time wasted.
