Depuis la signature de l’Accord de libre-échange nord-américain (ALÉNA), il y a plus de deux décennies, notre prise de conscience des changements climatiques s’est considérablement développée et le temps disponible pour y remédier s’amenuise. L’ALÉNA et les autres accords qui font partie du régime de libre- échange mondial ont servi à saper les actions urgentes requises pour résoudre la crise climatique et aider à reconstruire les économies locales, à réguler les sociétés privées et à mettre fin* aux projets extractifs destructeurs. Open Statement on NAFTA, Environment and Climate
Since the North America Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) was signed more than two decades ago, our awareness of climate change has dramatically changed and our window of time for addressing it has shortened. NAFTA and other agreements that are part of the global trade regime have been used to undermine critical actions needed to respond to the climate crisis that help rebuild local economies, regulate corporations and stop damaging extractive projects. Family farm groups from three countries slam NAFTA reboot based on TPP
As the formal talks to renegotiate NAFTA begin in Washington, DC this week, family farm organizations from Canada, the United States and Mexico denounce the direction of the talks. Despite repeated demands by civil society organizations in all three countries, the governments have refused to open the talks to the public or to publish proposed negotiating texts. Read more

Urgent Action Alert: Comments on proposed food safety regulations
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has proposed a major change to food safety regulations. If these regulations are adopted they will increase farmers’ costs, increase the cost of food, make it much harder for small fresh fruit and vegetable farmers to survive and would severely damage, if not destroy, the organic sector.
