SUMMARY:NFU Region 6 2023 Meet-up and Picnic
DESCRIPTION:Region 6 Executive/Council would like to invite you to the annual summer picnic\, at the Gardiner Dam visitor centre park\, Sunday\, July 23rd\, beginning at 12 noon. Mark your calendars for a time of good food\, sharing\, networking\, and good company! \nThe Gardiner Dam is located at the north end of Lake Diefenbaker—108 km from Saskatoon\, 211 km from Regina\, and 201 km from Swift Current. If you are 65 or over\, entry to the park and picnic area is free. If not\, it is $11/car or free if you have a seasonal pass to the provincial parks. Our event will be near the Visitor Centre (open 9 to 5 pm\, phone 1-306-8575500). \nQuick Details\nWho: NFU members\, family and friends\nWhat: Picnic\, meet-up\, swim and education\nWhen: Sunday\, July 23rd at noon\nWhere: The Gardiner Dam \nThere are 2 campsites about 10 minutes from the Visitor Centre. One at Danielson Provincial Park is full service and costs $33/night. The other at Caldwell Park has no water or electricity and rents for$20/night. Permits for camping can be bought online (at parks.saskatchewan.ca) or at the information desk at the Visitor Centre. Alternatively\, you could book accommodation at a motel at Outlook or Elbow. \nThe gathering will start at 12 noon with a potluck lunch located on the grassed and treed area next to the beach by the Visitor Centre.  \nWhat to Bring:\n\nfood to share\ndishes\, cups\, cutlery\, and other utensils\nSun shelters if you’d like\nFolding chairs and\, if convenient\, a folding table\nA bathing suit and towel if you want to swim\n\nNo pets allowed directly on the beach.  There are picnic tables\, but these may be in use. \nThere will be educational and sharing activities after the lunch. The featured presenter will be Emily Eaton\, talking about her new co-edited book\, The End of This World: Climate Justice in So-Called Canada. SUMMARY:NFU Region 6 (Saskatchewan) Convention
DESCRIPTION:The NFU Region 6 Convention will be held virtually via zoom on April 14 from 10 AM–3 PM CST. This is your opportunity to gather with fellow members\, hear what the region has been up to this year\, elect new board members\, discuss regional priorities\, and craft new resolutions for the upcoming year. \nNFU President Jenn Pfenning will make a presentation on current NFU activities and plans for next year. \nA highlight of the event will be a keynote presentation from members of the Treaty Land Sharing Network (TLSN)\, Martha Robbins and Tom Harrison. The TLSN is an organization that connects farmers and other landholders with First Nations and Métis people needing safe access to land to practice their way of life. Martha is a coordinator of the TLSN based in Saskatoon and Tom is a farmer participant based in Lumsden. Together they will speak about the TLSN’s origins and structure\, what they are working on now\, and some of the challenges and successes they’ve had along the way. \nLorne Scott\, farmer\, President of Nature Saskatchewan\, and former Minister of the Environment\, will give a brief presentation on using conservation easements to provide permanent protection for woodlands\, wetlands\, and grasslands that are part of a farm property. \nThe program will also include reports from active members and working groups including on the climate change and seed sovereignty campaigns\, the farmland co-operative committee\, the Lake Diefenbaker Irrigation Project\, the meetings of the Water Security Agency\, and “The World We Want” fundraising program of the National Farmers Foundation. \nMembers may attend (free of charge) via computer or phone. \nPlease register by calling the NFU office at (306) 652-9465 or email nfu@nfu.ca .
