Stick around for mingling\, learning and refreshments! \nDon’t miss an evening celebrating farmers and gardeners alike with New Grocery Movement (NGM)! NGM is a Canadian nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering communities to reimagine groceries and build food sovereignty through education\, connection and collaboration. \nThis season\, they will be relaunching their Garden Club in a new community garden in the Ritchie neighborhood. It’s an initiative to help more people get started on growing their own food by providing the tools\, the seeds\, the space and the knowledge to begin gardening. \nTo celebrate this relaunch\, NGM will be hosting a film screening of a selection of the National Farmers Union’s newly released short film series\, Depth of Field\, which profiles farmers across the country. Two of the Alberta-based farmers showcased in the films will be joined by Caitlyn from the local farm\, Good Thymes Garden\, for a farmer speaking panel between the films. NGM’s Rebecca MacLeod will be facilitating an exciting discussion with the farmers about local food\, sustainability and their farming experiences. \nWe are thrilled to share the evening with a number of special guests. A collection of incredible food organizations in Edmonton are invited\, so make sure to stop by their tables and learn about the wonderful opportunities to get involved in Edmonton’s food community as you mingle between films. \nEdmonton’s own Sip Liquor and Garneau Block will also be on scene with Alberta-made drinks and natural wines. DESCRIPTION:Join us Saturday\, March 23rd\, from 2:30pm to midnight MST at the Ukrainian Centre in Edmonton\, AB for a full day of inspiring short films about farming from Depth of Field\, engaging speakers and discussions\, music and dinner. \nEmbark with us on a cinematic journey as our Film Festival unfolds\, immersing attendees in a rich tapestry of films and discussions centered around agriculture and youth initiatives in the prairies. The day will commence with vendors displaying their work and showcases in the lower pavilion of the hall. \nAt 2:30 pm\, the event officially kicks off with a registration and reception\, inviting attendees to check in\, engage with vendors\, and relish a warm atmosphere complemented by light refreshments. An introduction and welcome speech follow\, setting the tone for the festival\, with an overview that illuminates the day’s mission and its significance. \nAt 3:30 pm we begin our first film and discussion block\, “Regenerating Our Lands.” The short films will explore critical themes such as climate change\, soil degradation\, regenerative grazing\, carbon capture\, and labor-output challenges. We will hold engaging discussions and Q&A sessions with knowledgeable speakers in order to enrich the participants’ viewing experience. \nAt 4:20pm onward\, Film Blocks 2 to 5 will explore topics like Seed Sovereignty\, Monopolies & Markets\, Indigenous Land Relations\, and the Roots of Migration. Each block features thought-provoking short films\, paving the way for in-depth discussions that amplify understanding and encourage audience participation. With an intermission to provide more opportunities to explore vendors and energize the attendees. \nAt 8:00pm\, a Dinner Break and Networking session provides a perfect interlude for attendees to enjoy a meal\, network with like-minded individuals\, and explore interactive vendor displays. This moment of camaraderie enhances the festival experience\, fostering connections among participants. \nAt 8:45pm\, the final Film block: “Cultivating Tomorrow’s Harvest” with focus on alternative agricultural relations in our changing world.
