SUMMARY:BIPOC Workshop—Maritimes
DESCRIPTION:The National Farmers Union (NFU) BIPOC (Black\, Indigenous and People of Colour) Caucus is hosting a series of in-person farmer-led events coast to coast to coast! We are inviting current and aspiring BIPOC farmers and farm workers together to connect\, learn\, and organize together. \nThe NFU BIPOC Caucus has identified access to technical training as a barrier to entering farming\, especially led by BIPOC producers. We also have a desire and a need to connect with and unite alongside BIPOC producers. In union\, we are strong – and at the core of collective work\, is relationships. We are so thrilled to offer financially-supported opportunities to bring BIPOC farmers and farm workers together to build relationships and learn. Aspiring BIPOC farmers / farm workers / adjacent food workers welcome! \nJoin us for our maritimes gathering! All maritime based BIPOC growers are invited to join us at Kennebecasis Valley Public Library in Quispamsis\, NB to learn about and knowledge share around agroecological practices\, low-till\, and other aspects of sustainable farming\, and to connect with other BIPOC farmers and farm workers. You will hear from experienced farmers and have the opportunity to share your own knowledge as well\, and to explore community building and discuss our collective struggles and policy opportunities. \nWhere: Kennebecasis Valley Public Library\, Quispamsis\, NB \nWhen: April 1\, 2023\, 10am-6pm \nWhat: Agroecology & low-till knowledge sharing & exploring our connections\, collective struggles\, and policy opportunities \nSchedule of the day:\n*subject to some change* \n\n10:00-12:00 Meet\, morning refreshments\, ceremony / opening\, introduction to the National Farmers Union (NFU)\, introduction to Indigenous & ecological farming principals\, Land Back\, permaculture\n\n\n12:00-12:30 Lunch will be provided and attendees are invited to connect with others\n\n\n12:30-14:30 Introduction to farm business; companies / cooperatives\, land access / leases / trusts\, business plans\, crop plans\, farming techniques (irrigation\, compost\, tools) & funding / grants\n\n\n14:30-16:00 Coffee / prayer break\, introduction to marketing and organizing; working with and building community\, next steps\n\n\n16:00-18:00 Farm tours\n\nAttendees to this event are able to receive a gas stipend for travel\, and lunch and refreshments will be provided. \nAttendees must Register here! \nAfter you register\, more information will be sent to your email on how to access financial support for travel (gas stipend) & the event’s fine details! DESCRIPTION:Come to the first ever National Farmers Union BIPOC Caucus! We are having an in person field day at Vintage Soil Farm on July 23rd at her farm in Kemptville\, ON. Learn how Vintage Soil Farm manages a horse powered mixed vegetable market farm for CSA and markets. Great for beginners and experienced farmers!\n\n\n\n\nFrom 11am-3pm you will be guided through a meet n’ greet\, a two hour workshop about the basics of market farming\, meeting the horses\, a Q+A regarding business/growing and of course hanging out at a beautiful farm!\n\n\n\n\nIf you need a ride to the farm\, which is close to Ottawa\, please email sundanceharvest@gmail.com as many people have extra spots in their cars and are driving from Toronto and the surrounding GTA to Vintage Soils Farm.
