La Commission du bl\u00e9 dirige pr\u00e8s de 95 % des c\u00e9r\u00e9ales qui transitent par le port. \u00ab\u00a0Le ministre Ritz a camoufl\u00e9 l&rsquo;impact n\u00e9gatif pour le port de Churchill en accordant cette subvention\u00a0\u00bb, d\u00e9clare Jan Slomp, pr\u00e9sident de <span class=\"nfu-acronym-en\"><\/span>. Cette subvention doit prendre fin l&rsquo;ann\u00e9e prochaine.<\/p><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-653652e\" data-block-id=\"653652e\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">\u00ab\u00a0L&#8217;emplacement du port est id\u00e9al pour l&rsquo;exp\u00e9dition de produits en provenance et \u00e0 destination de l&rsquo;Europe, de la Russie, du Mexique, de l&rsquo;Afrique, de l&rsquo;Am\u00e9rique du Sud et du Moyen-Orient. L&rsquo;utilisation du port de Churchill permet d&rsquo;\u00e9viter une navigation fastidieuse, une manutention suppl\u00e9mentaire et un transport co\u00fbteux par les Grands Lacs et la Voie maritime du Saint-Laurent \u00ab\u00a0*.<\/p><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-8a70124\" data-block-id=\"8a70124\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">OmniTrax, qui est le principal employeur de Churchill, a licenci\u00e9 des dizaines de travailleurs lundi et annonc\u00e9 que le port fermerait ses portes plus t\u00f4t que pr\u00e9vu, le 6 ao\u00fbt. La perte d&#8217;emplois aura sans aucun doute un effet d\u00e9vastateur sur l&rsquo;\u00e9conomie locale et est d&rsquo;autant plus difficile \u00e0 accepter qu&rsquo;elle n&rsquo;a fait l&rsquo;objet d&rsquo;aucun pr\u00e9avis ni d&rsquo;aucune consultation.<\/p><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-62e1822\" data-block-id=\"62e1822\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Ce port a jou\u00e9 un r\u00f4le essentiel dans l&rsquo;acheminement des c\u00e9r\u00e9ales des Prairies vers les march\u00e9s et a permis d&rsquo;\u00e9viter les ruptures de charge en cas d&rsquo;exp\u00e9ditions importantes. L&rsquo;avantage en termes de fret pour les fermi\u00e8res de l&rsquo;est de la Saskatchewan et de l&rsquo;ouest du Manitoba s&rsquo;\u00e9levait \u00e0 10-25 $\/tonne (environ 1 000 $\/charge de wagon) par rapport au syst\u00e8me du Saint-Laurent.<\/p><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-b18caba\" data-block-id=\"b18caba\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Et ce, alors que les fermiers canadiens et les exp\u00e9diteurs de c\u00e9r\u00e9ales s&rsquo;attendent \u00e0 une r\u00e9colte massive de c\u00e9r\u00e9ales. La Western Grain Elevators Association pr\u00e9voit que la r\u00e9colte de cette ann\u00e9e s&rsquo;\u00e9l\u00e8vera au minimum \u00e0 63 millions de tonnes et pourrait atteindre 74,1 millions de tonnes. Cette situation serait comparable \u00e0 celle de la r\u00e9colte record de 2013-2014, au cours de laquelle des millions de tonnes ont \u00e9t\u00e9 abandonn\u00e9es et dont le co\u00fbt pour l&rsquo;\u00e9conomie des Prairies est estim\u00e9 \u00e0 5 milliards de dollars.<\/p><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-96e1a94\" data-block-id=\"96e1a94\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Quatre soci\u00e9t\u00e9s c\u00e9r\u00e9ali\u00e8res g\u00e9antes contr\u00f4lent aujourd&rsquo;hui le syst\u00e8me de manutention des c\u00e9r\u00e9ales et aucune d&rsquo;entre elles ne poss\u00e8de le port de Churchill.
