SUMMARY:NFU Region 6\, District 3 Convention
DESCRIPTION:The Region 6\, District 3 (south western Saskatchewan) will be holding its Annual District Convention on Saturday\, January 26\, 2019 in the meeting room at the Modern Family Restaurant\, Swift Current\, SK\, 49 Central Ave N. \n The meeting will commence at 3:00 P.M. Dinner will be ordered off the menu. \nThe District Annual Convention is one of the cornerstones of the democratic process in the NFU\, so it’s absolutely vital that you\, your spouse and your children over the age of 14 exercise your right to participate.  Resolutions may be presented and considered at this Convention; if passed\, they will go to the National Convention for possible adoption as NFU national policy.  Another purpose of this Convention is to elect from among the members of the Union in your district\, a District Director\, a Women’s District Director and a Youth District Director. \nOur keynote speaker will be Cam Goff\, speaking on the corporate seed industry’s efforts to bring in new royalties to keep farmers from using farm-saved seed — and what the NFU is doing to protect farmers’ age-old right to freely save and reuse our own seed. \nIf you require further information\, you may call Ralph Renwick at (306) 587-7793 or (306) 587-2331.

SUMMARY:OUR Communities. OUR country. OUR world. OUR economy.
DESCRIPTION:OUR Communities. OUR country. OUR world. OUR economy.* \nA public event featuring Jim Stanford\, PhD\, economist with the Unifor. \nHow can people effectively navigate this increasingly globalized and fragmented world\, where corporate power trumps that of elected governments? What can we do when we are systematically stripped of our democratic right to information so that we can provide feedback and make recommendations about policy decisions that profoundly affect our government’s ability to act in our best interests; when our freedom to dissent and resist becomes criminalized or labelled as terrorism; when governments enact legislation with the specific intent to crush organized resistance and dissent\, such as labour unions provide? \nEconomist Jim Stanford will talk about these and other economic and political factors that affect how Canadians organize themselves to represent their interests\, recreate democratic processes\, and reclaim and transform an economic system that has been hijacked by global corporate tycoons. He will tell the story of how two unions\, CAW and CEP (Communications\, Energy\, and Paperworkers)\, began to talk about doing things differently\, how that conversation ultimately resulted in the formation of Unifor\, Canada’s newest and largest labour union\, and what the NFU might learn from Unifor’s experience. \nEveryone is welcome – Admission is free.
