BOEHM RE-ELECTED BY ACCLAMATION AT 42nd ANNUAL NFU NATIONAL CONVENTION

Saskatoon, Sask. - Terry Boehm of Allan, Saskatchewan was re-elected President of the National Farmers Union (NFU) by acclamation, at its 42nd annual national convention in London, Ontario last week.

Colleen Ross of Iroquois, Ontario was acclaimed as NFU 1st Vice-President (Policy).

Don Mills of Granton, Ontario was acclaimed as NFU 2nd Vice-President (Operations).

Joan Brady of Dashwood, Ontario was acclaimed as NFU Women’s President.

NFU CONGRATULATES WALL FOR SASK ELECTION VICTORY

Saskatoon, Sask. - The National Farmers Union (NFU) is offering its congratulations to Brad Wall and the Saskatchewan Party for their victory in the Saskatchewan provincial election yesterday. The Saskatchewan Party was credited with achieving an overwhelming victory, after it captured 64% of the popular vote.

NFU CALLS ON MINISTER RITZ TO QUIT HIDING BEHIND CLOSED DOORS

Saskatoon, Sask. November 2, 2011 – The NFU is calling on Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz to quit hiding behind closed doors as his government steamrolls legislation through Parliament to kill the Canadian Wheat Board (CWB). Yesterday, several farmers attempted to attend an event at which the Minister was to give a speech, at the Rahr Malting Canada plant in Alix, Alberta. “It is really quite troubling that Ritz does not want to allow farmers to hear his speeches. He supposedly has come to bring us good news.

NFU SAYS HARPER GOVERNMENT HAS BULLIED AND OUTRAGED PRAIRIE GRAIN FARMERS

Saskatoon, Sask. – The National Farmers Union (NFU) says that the Harper government hasn’t deceived prairie wheat and barley farmers with their dual market rhetoric. “The NFU has always maintained that a dual market is not possible. It’s the Canadian Wheat Board (CWB) with the single desk, or not CWB at all. Harper has known this all along, and the legislation his government introduced yesterday proves that,” stated NFU President Terry Boehm.

MANITOBA FARMERS URGED TO JOIN NFU AFTER KAP BOWS OUT OF FIGHT TO SAVE CWB

Saskatoon, Sask. – The National Farmers Union (NFU) says that the Keystone Agricultural Producers (KAP) have abandoned the farmers of Manitoba with their recent decision to withdraw from the fight to save the Canadian Wheat Board’s (CWB) single desk. “Manitoba farmers are upset with this decision.

NFU SAYS CHANGE TO APP REVEALS HYPOCRISY OF FEDERAL GOVERNMENT

Saskatoon, Sask. – The National Farmers Union (NFU) says the federal government has revealed its true beliefs regarding the future of the Canadian Wheat Board (CWB). Earlier today, the federal government announced that the CWB would no longer be administering the Advance Payments Program (APP) for Western wheat and barley. The program will now be administered by the Canadian Canola Growers Association (CCGA).

Kudos to GRAIN for Right Livelihood Award: NFU

The National Farmers Union extends our congratulations to GRAIN, which has been honoured with the 2011Right Livelihood Award. The award, also known as the Alternative Nobel Prize, recognizes individuals or organizations for their outstanding vision and work on behalf of our planet and its people. It is presented annually by the Swedish Parliament shortly before the Nobel awards ceremony.

NFU SAYS RITZ’S WORKING GROUP REPORT IS SHOCKINGLY HOLLOW

Saskatoon, Sask. – The National Farmers Union (NFU) says that the report released by the working group assembled by Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz is shockingly hollow. In July, Ritz announced the formation of a working group whose purpose was to suggest how the grain marketing system should operate following the assumed end of the Canadian Wheat Board’s (CWB) single desk by August 1, 2012. The working group only included anti-CWB farm groups, and there was no representation from the producer car groups and short line railway groups.

NFU MOURNS LOSS OF AG REPORTER ADRIAN EWINS

Saskatoon, Sask. - The National Farmers Union (NFU) mourns the loss of Adrian Ewins, an inspired journalist and a gentleman. We would like to express our condolences to his family, friends, and to all those he worked with. Adrian Ewins was always well respected for the integrity and the intelligence he brought to his profession.

“It has always been a pleasure to work with Adrian. He was an exceptional reporter who was committed to always putting complex stories into their full context,” said NFU President Terry Boehm.

NFU CALLS ON RITZ TO RESPECT WESTERN FARMERS

Saskatoon, Sask. – The National Farmers Union (NFU) is calling on federal Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz to respect Western wheat and barley farmers, who voted in favour of the Canadian Wheat Board’s (CWB) single desk in the recent CWB plebiscite. “Farmers have clearly shown that they support the single desk, and the advantages it clearly brings, just as they always have. The message that farmers have sent Ritz is crystal clear.
