(Saskatoon) - Friday’s announcement of the revised Growing Forward 2 Business Risk Management (BRM) programs, the cost-shared federal-provincial policy framework, has two significant changes: a loss level trigger for AgriStability that will make it difficult, if not impossible, for most farms to obtain support under the program; and a clear decision by governments to seek out private insurance options to fill the gaps in public farm safety net programs.

NFU in NB concerned Growing Forward programs do not work for Atlantic farmers

The Growing Forward 2 Agricultural Program is about change.  Federal Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz met with representatives from the agriculture industry recently in Fredericton to discuss the Growing Forward 2 Program to be implemented April 2013.  National Farmers Union in New Brunswick (NFU in NB) President, Jean-Eudes Chiasson, came away from the meeting with mixed feelings.

(Saskatoon)– The National Farmers Union (NFU) calls on federal and provincial agriculture ministers to improve Business Risk Management (BRM) programs under Growing Forward 2 by ensuring needed money will be directed to family farms instead of being used to help the biggest corporate farms grow even larger.

National Farmers Union Members Oppose Closure of Federal Research Facility

Bouctouche, N.B.-The National Farmers Union spoke out clearly at the NFU Region 1 Convention on August 7 against the closure of the Hervé J. Michaud Experimental Farm in Bouctouche.  Members attending from the three Maritime Provinces were unanimous in passing a resolution to maintain the research facility and all other federal experimental farms currently slated for closure under federal cost-cutting measures.
