NATIONAL TELEPHONE LOBBY ORGANIZED

SASKATOON, SK - The National Farmers Union launched today a concentrated phone-in to federal Liberal rural caucus members in Ottawa to draw attention to the continuing financial crisis confronting prairie farmers.

NFU Spokesperson, Terry Boehm, reported fifty calling centres had been established across the country from points in the Maritimes, Ontario and western Canada. NFU members at each calling centre are directly contacting the Liberal MPs and Senators to impress upon them the severity of the financial crisis.

Boehm said the telephone lobby campaign known as "Operation Alexander" was designed to add support to presentations being made to the federal Standing Committee on Agriculture currently conducting hearings in the prairies.

"We believe it is essential to impress upon all members of the Liberal rural caucus the severity of the situation out here, not only a few members on the Agriculture Committee," Boehm concluded.
