We invite you to attend the Region 8 Annual Convention which will be held Thursday October 6, 2016 at Vancouver Island Visitor Centre, 101 – 3607 Small Road, Cumberland, BC. The Convention  commences with registration on Thursday at 10:00 A.M.
 
Registration fee is $20.00/individual or $30.00/couple and includes lunch.
 
This year’s convention includes presentations from:
  • Jan Slomp, NFU President -NFU’s Vital Influence in Regional, National and International Farm Policy
  • Wendy Holm, P.Ag., columnist and author -We All Have a Stake in BC’s Peace River Valley
  • Peter Eggers, Regional Coordinator  - Managing Nutrients for Financial Success while Mitigating Climate Change on the Farm              
Resolutions on current policy issues may be presented to this Convention and those passed will be forwarded to National Convention for debate and voting.
 
Elections for two National Board members, a Women’s Advisory Committee member, a Youth Advisory Committee member, and an International Program Committee member will also be held, as well as nominations for the Grassroots Member Award.

13:00 PM – Presentation: We All Have a Stake in BC’s Peace River Valley, by Wendy Holm, P Ag, columnist and author. Why opposition to BC Hydro’s proposed Site C Dam on the Peace River from Treaty 8 First Nations, farmers, food and energy professionals, academics and concerned citizens is growing; what impact will it have on food; what the real end game is all about (water); and what the NFU can do to help stop this project.
14:15 – Presentation: NFU’s Vital Influence in Regional, National and International Farm Policy,  by Jan Slomp, NFU President
15:15 - Presentation: Managing Nutrients for Financial Success while Mitigating Climate Change on the Farm by Peter Eggers. Peter will speak from his experience practicing holistic management and nutrient management on his organic mixed farm in La Glace, AB.
 
We encourage all members to attend this important event. Your participation and input are very important in our discussions that will provide direction for our Region. We also encourage you to invite interested farmers and your neighbours to attend and observe the convention.
