NFU Region 1, District 1 (Prince Edward Island) District Convention

Tue, 03/15/2016 - 09:30 - 17:00
NFU Region 1, District 1 (Prince Edward Island) will be holding its Annual District Convention on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at the Milton Community Hall, 7 New Glasgow Road, Rte. 224 (corner of Rte. 7 and 224), North Milton, P.E.I.  In case of a storm, the convention will be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2016.
Registration will commence at 9:30 A.M. and the Call to Order will be 10:00 A.M.  Registration fee:  $20/person (includes a noon meal)
The District has made a decision to pay parents’ childcare expenses up to a maximum of $25 per child for that day in order that the parents can attend the convention. Please contact Edith Ling at (902) 368-1262 if childcare is required.
The District Annual Convention is one of the cornerstones of the democratic process in the NFU, so it’s absolutely vital that members, including spouse and children over the age of 14 exercise their right to participate.  Resolutions may be presented and considered at this Convention; if passed, they will go to the Regional Convention and then to National Convention for possible adoption as NFU national policy.  Another purpose of this Convention is to elect from among the members of the Union in your district, a District Director, a Women’s District Director and a Youth District Director.
Our keynote speaker will be President Jan Slomp.  Hon. Alan McIsaac, PEI Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, will also be addressing our convention.  Federal Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, Hon. Lawrence MacAulay has been invited but is not confirmed at this time.  We are also planning to invite a speaker to give us an update on the proposed Water Act.
If you require further information, you may call Reg Phelan at (902) 961-2428 or Edith Ling at (902) 368-1262.
We look forward to seeing you on March 15th!
